Sakura continues to hunt Mirai inside Hollow Shadow’s illusion world. Akihito saved Mirai just in time because he managed to jump into the illusion world when trying to follow Mirai. So now they’re both being hunted by Sakura.
It seems like, Hollow Shadow is trying to “destroy” Mirai using her past regret by using Yui’s form. However, Mirai’s cursed blood is not to be taken lightly. She defeats the very powerful Hollow Shadow using her blood and manages to escape. Her blood is so powerful that the rain of her blood after defeating Hollow Shadow is strong enough to kill dreamshades (youmu).
Now here comes the twist. Hollow Shadow is not truly dead, yet. It enters Akihito’s body in attempt to possess him. Akihito begs Mirai to stab him and release her blood on him to chase out Hollow Shadow before he loses control of his own body. It’s impressive that Akihito manages to stay in control of his body for so long, enough to convince hesitated Mirai. At this point I started to respect him as a strong half-youmu, despite how he looks totally normal and weak as human.
Mirai’s stab and blood manages to defeat Hollow Shadow. But Akihito’s body has taken too much damage that he can no longer suppress his youmu-side. His youmu side emerges and take control. Three spirit hunters including Hiroomi tries to contain the out-of-control Akihito inside a barrier. Obviously they fail. Everything seemed to be in chaos until Mirai jumped to hug transformed Akihito, and successfully turned him back to normal. Somehow I feel like watching Kagome doing the same trick to awakened Inuyasha.
This episode truly exceeds my expectations of this anime. The battle scenes are superb, especially the transformed version of Akihito totally changes the tone of this story. I smell political plot here from the stealing of Hollow Shadow’s stone. Not really my favorite type of twist, but we shall see what will happen next week.
