So, it’s about a grand nation of the dead, a major city with more than a million population, all of them are “living” undead. Last week I was wondering, how will they “top up” episode 3 which already have finale-like scene? Apparently by introducing something on bigger scale. I’m not sure how this will play up, but for now I admit that this idea does have potential.
This episode started with Ai, Yuri and Scar traveling together in an old car. For some reason, there’s a sleeping boy in the car. That boy is Kiriko, an apprentice at a government office in the city of Ortus. Yuri agrees to give him a ride to a location near Ortus. But since the car needs to be repaired, Kiriko is helping them to get the car fixed in Ortus.
Ortus is a grand city of undead. No living person is allowed there, with the exception of special area prepared for trading purposes, where living person can enter with a very strict rule. Most of the undead doesn’t want their “eternal life” to be ended, thus they will kill every Gravekeeper they encounter. In front of Ortus, there are graves of Gravekeepers they have killed.
In front of Ortus gate, Ai meets Pox and Rex. Pox is vice captain of Ortus Imperial Guard. Rex is ambassador of special foreign affairs. The unique part is, each of them only have half body. So the two of them formed one body, the right half is Pox and the left half is Rex. Due to a small gesture Ai makes (offering both her hands in handshaking so she can shake both of them), the group is given an exception, they are allowed to enter Ortus city. While Ai is very excited about seeing a city for the dead (something about her mom’s dream), Yuri is very concerned because Ai is a Gravekeeper, a being most hated in the city.
They end up entering. And Scar is having a serious headache, I guess that comes naturally for a Gravekeeper to be in the middle of a city with 1 million undead. Even Yuri has told Ai not to leave their room, Ai goes out for sightseeing, wearing mask, like all the undead do.
Now, question time. Whose car is that? Do they steal random car? Or is it Yuri’s car? If it’s Yuri’s car, how did Kiriko end up sleeping there after being drugged? If Kiriko is from Ortus, it means he’s also an undead. Scar always want to do her job, giving proper burial to the undead. Why didn’t she have the urge for Kiriko?
Or even the most basic question: why do Scar and Yuri accompany Ai in her “journey to save the world”? I can probably understand that Yuri has lost his will to live, and accompanying Ai might give him a new reason to live his days. But how about Scar? She’s a Gravekeeper, why does she end up in a group of living human and half-Gravekeeper, having a random journey together? They better explain these in the next episodes.
