Mai Otome, second season of Mai HiME, is a quite interesting sequel. Watching the first few episodes, what I can see is the same characters, but completely different role in a different world.
After her grandmother died, Yumemiya Arika went to Wind Bloom country hoping to find her mother. She knows only a little about her mother except that she’s an otome – a girl dedicated her life to serve a master (usually a country’s leader) and fight for of her master as the protector of royal leaders. For many years, battles between otomes had replaced traditional way or war, using troops. With the power of nanomachines, otomes are capable to materialize a robe which has the power to defeat even a legion of army. Fate brings Arika to meet Nina Wong who also (not intentionally) lead her way to the prestigious Gualderobe Academy, a school for people who wants to become an otome, the only place in the world who has the technology of nanomachines. Just as expected from Mai-HiME’s sequel, this anime offers great (or even better) storyline ! The music is not as good, but the story complexity, and the character development is very amusing and entertaining. Recommended for age 18 or more. My rating : ★★★★★ Seiyuu
