Many people have different opinions about this title. Love Hina is a fantastic anime teaching us about life. For me, this is the first anime that introduce me to the world of Japanese animation. Without this title, probably there won’t be any anime/manga pages here in this web site.
The story began with a childhood promise made by a man named Urashima Keitaro. He promised a girl that they will enter Tokyo University together when they’ve grown up. For your information, it is very difficult to enter a popular university in Japan. Tokyo University (Toudai) is the hardest one ! Unfortunately, Keitaro can’t even remember the name of that girl. Later, the story brought him to Hinata Sou, a girl dormitory where he met Narusegawa Naru, uhm, a beautiful and violent girl ^^ Hinata Sou is owned by Keitaro’s grandmother. Since she is going to travel around the world, Keitaro was asked to be the new kanrinin (resident manager) in Hinata Sou. Surely, it is not going to be so easy since all residents reject a young man to be a kanrinin of female dormitory ! Slowly but sure, Keitaro is getting closer to each of Hinata Sou residents. Konno Mitsune, Kaolla Suu, Maehara Shinobu, Aoyama Motoko, and… of course… Narusegawa Naru. As Keitaro already failed twice in Tokyo University entrance exam, he is going to try the exam again this year. Naru, which is also want to enter Tokyo University, help Keitaro in his study. Love is growing between Keitaro and Naru. Keitaro presumes that Naru is the girl of his promise 15 years ago. Is it correct or only Keitaro’s imagination? All Naru said is : 15 years ago she was still 2 years old, how can a girl made such a promise in the age of 2? The love between those two become more difficult since both are too busy struggling with his/her own feeling. The story become more complicated with the appearance of Noriyasu Seta and Otohime Mutsumi. Noriyasu Seta is a lecture in Toudai. He is Naru’s first love and the reason why Naru wants to go to Toudai. Otohime Mutsumi is a girl from Keitaro’s past. Even it is not sure yet that she is the girl who made a promise with Keitaro. The storyline is a little bit different between anime and manga version. Love Hina told us about the true meaning of love, friendship, promise, and family. Surely with “its own unique way” ^_^ Recommended for all ages. My rating for the manga : ★★★★☆ Seiyuu
