This episode tries to establish solid background story behind the reason why our “players” are trapped in the “gaming world” of Elder Tale. The mage we saw last episode turns out to be a storyteller.

Basically, there is a special type of magic that will affect the entire “world”. The first time such magic was used for the creation of demi-human monsters. The second time it was used to “summon” adventurers (game players) to Elder Tale (the first launch of the game). And the third time was the Apocalypse, the start of how our heroes are trapped inside Elder Tale and how it’s no longer a game.

As an extra twist, this episode reveals the possibility of memory lost every time an Adventurer dies and gets revived in the cathedral. For 13 episodes, we believe that it’s perfectly safe to “die” in this Elder Tale world, at least for Adventurers. Apparently now that our heroes are trapped in this world instead of just playing a game, there is a major difference of how “memory” works. As a game player, when someone’s game character dies, the character will be revived with loss of experience. However, the memory are perfectly fine because the one who remembers about the character (and the game) the the player. Now that they are trapped, they become both the character (body) AND the player (mind), resulting that experience lost suffered by the character might also apply to memory lost suffered by the player.

Interesting setup, I must say. But I would prefer if they could deliver this background in a much interesting way rather than just a visualized conversation between 3 people in a room full of books. While the story development is substantial, the experience of watching this episode is kinda boring.
