Someone died in Elder Tale and he’s revived back in the city. This news spreads fast, assuring people that there’s no danger of in-game death. So they can actually play and hunt monster as they like, and even if they get killed, they can always try again since no harm will be done.

It’s hard not to compare Log Horizon with Sword Art Online, so I’ll make few comparisons on what has been revealed so far.

Death
SAO: in-game death means actual death
Log Horizon: it’s ok to die, will simply respawn

Reason of being trapped
SAO: some crazy action from game maker
Log Horizon: they just suddenly trapped for no particular reason

Food taste
SAO: food taste good, with cooking ability and ingredients combining skill
Log Horizon: food taste bad, they all taste the same regardless of how they look

Level
SAO: everyone starts at level 1
Log Horizon: people have been playing for a while and they get to keep their high levels when they get trapped

Way to escape
SAO: defeat bosses in 100 floors
Log Horizon: no one has any idea what to do to escape the game world

As a result of having no goal, trapped Elder Tale players are not as motivated as SAO’s front-liners. Then, the natural things happen, when people are bored with no goal, they start doing bad things. In this case, a new PK (player killer) trend emerges. Some people are having fun by killing other players, knowing that the killed player will just respawn.

Shiroe, Naotsugu and Akatsuki have their first encounter with PK group. If anything, the fight scene serves well to give us better idea about the game system and demonstrates Shiroe’s ability to make quick strategy.

Back to the main story, Crescent Moon Alliance requests our heroes’ help to rescue one of their member in distant location. Since portal gates are not functional, the only way to go there is by horse-riding, and it will take days to get there. At least that’s some mini goal for them to do.

Now a little surprise, Shiroe and Naotsugu has an item to summon something other than horse. They can summon griffons ! Now they can fly and travel faster.

Great episode. I quite enjoy it. Can’t wait for next week.
