This week, we get to see Kirino’s past and understand more about the relationship between those non-blood-related siblings. Since childhood time, Kirino was admiring Kyousuke as a “cool” brother capable of doing anything. Though I find it hard to believe, Kyousuke is actually the reason why Kirino tried so hard to change herself from a weak incapable girl into her current character: a model, great at sport, good grades at school.

As both of them grew up, things change. Kyousuke becomes more of a lazy bum. Kirino was upset to see her cool brother changed into something else. And she blamed Manami for this change. Is it really Manami’s fault? Kyousuke’s change might be triggered when he discovered Kirino is not his blood-related little sister, or maybe something happened at school and he decided not to push himself too hard anymore, or he simply grew up and realized he’s an average person and started to act like one. This happens a lot to many people. Kids used to think they’re special, best in something. Yet with so many kids in the world, they can’t possibly all be “best”. Because the word “best” can only exists when there are more others who are “worse”. And the word “special” can only have its meaning when there are more others who are “ordinary”.

It’s interesting to see how Kirino’s first encounter with eroge was actually because of her frustration towards her brother. Plus how Manami told her that it’s “unusual” for a little sister to have that kind of “like” towards her brother. In Kirino’s first encounter to Ayase, she admitted that she decided to do modeling because she imitated someone she admired. Again, that person is Kyousuke.

All in all, this episode is a build up to prepare this story to its “real” ending. After killing the hopes of some “candidates” in this season, of course the creators of this series must work hard to convince fans that Kirino is indeed the one who should win. And going back to the sibling’s past just might do the trick.
