That satisfied expression on Chihaya’s face is priceless.
Chihaya might not be a worthy rival (yet) for Shinobu, but she’s certainly a best candidate for a friend.
So Chihaya still manages to win with her left-hand. It’s the usual Chihaya, thinking and solving her challenge during a match. And her solution is to switch her card arrangement, mirrored from what it used to be with her right hand. Now that everything is mirrored, her mind gets less confused and can focus more. The next battle from class A is Nishida vs Taichi. While Nishida does show a lot of determination (and better play from the last time he had Taichi as opponent), Taichi is simply a lot better.
It’s funny how Taichi’s parents are coming to see Taichi’s matches, intensively praying. You would have thought they pray for Taichi’s success, right? Nope, they pray for Taichi to lose. Since Taichi told them he will study in Tokyo if he wins this tournament, his parents will have to prepare a lot of money for his living cost, therefore they want Taichi to lose, lol.
Next is the semi-final of class A. Chihaya is up against… Shinobu !
Yaay ! Chihaya vs Shinobu is a match I anticipated the most, from the beginning of season 2. And I finally get it, despite Chihaya is injured. The result… is probably what I had predicted. Shinobu is still better and faster. I think Chihaya would still lose to Shinobu even if her finger is not injured, at least for this tournament. As a consolation “prize”, Chihaya managed to “defend” one card from Shinobu, and can snatch another card after opening her finger’s bandage. And that card is Shinobu’s best card.
What I like the most, is how Chihaya approached Shinobu after the match. While Chihaya is probably not a worthy opponent yet for Shinobu, she’s probably the closest (and the best) candidate for being Shinobu’s friend. They’re both weird in their own way, and insanely focused on Karuta. I think they could become best friends. Probably in season 3, I can only hope.
