Academic City is a place in futuristic world setting where the vast majority of its population are students aiming to become an esper (a person with special ability). With the help of science and plenty of training sessions, superhuman ability can be achieved during education. The ability type is different for each person. And the ability strength is measured by 5 levels (level 5 is the strongest).
Our main character, Misaka Mikoto, is one of the top level espers in Academic City. She’s level 5 and she can produce electricity at will and can use it in various ways. She loves cute stuff and has a strong sense of justice. Misaka’s best friend, Shirai Kuroko, is a level 4 with teleportation ability. She’s a member of Judgement squad, some sort of law enforcing authority, and she’s also obsessed with Misaka. We also have Saten Ruiko, a girl dreaming to have an ability but have not yet succeeded so far (still level 0) and Uiharu Kazari, a level 1, Kuroko’s colleague at Judgement. These four are our main heroes. To Aru Kagaku no Railgun is a parallel story of To Aru Majutsu no Index. Both series happen in the same world setting, and some of the characters appear in both series. I really like Misaka’s character. She’s one of the female heroines who managed to look very cool without losing the cuteness part. Watching her daily antics with Kuroko is always entertaining. Recommended for all ages. My rating : ★★★★☆ Seiyuu
