Our main hero is a low-level God (I think this follows Shinto setting with multiple Gods) named Yato. One day Yato’s divine weapon (shinki) quits, so he becomes a God without shrine and without weapon.
Technically Yato is a God of war. But what he does is lately is just like a handyman. Or even, call-to-ask-anything person. Yes, Yato will grant people’s wishes and requests, including finding a lost cat. He does that manually (by searching the cat) instead of using magic or God-like power. And he only charges 5 yen for one help (Japanese people usually throws 5 yen coins at shrines). Yato dreams of building his own shrine, though I’m not sure how long will it take if “his saving” is just 5 yen coins in a bottle.
While doing one of his work (searching for lost cat), a human girl named Hiyori saved Yato from traffic accident and now she’s stuck between human realm and afterlife realm. Hiyori gains the power to see monsters and the ability to separate her soul from her body. The bad news is… sometimes she doesn’t realize it when her body was left somewhere while her soul keeps on moving.
